I bake… and sometimes I blog

Suitcase Cake

This weekend, I made a suitcase cake for a bridal shower.

Cupcakes are Fun

Did someone say they wanted an animal print cake? That one seems pretty popular lately. This one was one of the brightest ones I’ve made.

Also made some chocolate pops shaped like tigers, zebras and giraffes (oh my).

Happy Birthday Rachel

You’re a star, Rachel! Auntie Dawn loves you!

Toy Story is one of my favorite animated movies (and I am not a big fan of animated movies). So, when Kim asked for a Toy Story cake for her son’s birthday, I was excited to come up with something creative. A scan of google gave me a lot of great ideas (where would we be without google) and I finally settled on the bed.

I originally had a headboard and footboard on the bed but it looked better without them. I had a blast making the quilt fondant and the letters. The girls helped a lot with the cupcake characters.

The cake was chocolate and vanilla marble with chocolate ganache filling.

And did I mention how fun it was to make?

Baby Showers

Baby showers are so much fun. And with two in as many weekends, it was lot of fun baking.

Happy Birthday Carina

Happy Birthday Carina!

And thanks Megan for the great picture!

Happy Birthday Makenzy

Soon, Makenzy will be 12. Can’t believe she is getting so big (she’s almost taller than me). She wanted a purple mannequin cake.

The cake was french vanilla with cookies and cream filling. The mannequin (made with Rice Krispie Treats) was a lot of fun to make.

I decided to throw in some cupcakes.

Monkey cake

My husband recently asked if I could make a monkey cake.  I have not made a lot of shaped cakes and haven’t really worked with regular frosting and tips.

Today my 11 year old daughter was home sick so I wasn’t able to go run errands or do some of the things I normally do in a day.  Well, I did drag her out to Joanne’s but we were in and out of there in 10 minutes, which is record time I might add. Just needed to pick up a monkey shaped cake pan.

Since I was focused on the decorating and not really the making the cake, I decided to use cake mix from a box, something I’ve not done in quite a while. After the cake was done I put it in the freezer for a while.  After taking it out of the freezer I only had 45 minutes before I had to leave to pick up my other daughter, niece and nephew from school so I had to decorate quickly. Next time I make a cake like this I will need to spend more time on the face. I only dirty frosted the mouth and eye area.

The kids were very happy for the afternoon cake surprise!
